The Vitamin Shoppe Thyroid Complex - Does It Work?-Review

What is The Vitamin Shoppe Thyroid Complex?

Today we are reviewing the Vitamin Shoppe Thyroid Complex, a supplement designed to help individuals suffering from hypothyroidism by boosting the functionality of the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland which regulates metabolism requires a natural supplement for individuals who have too little thyroid hormone.

Ingredients & How It Works

Primary Ingredients

  • Thiamin (Vitamin B1) (As Thiamin HCl) - 10 mg

  • Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) - 10 mg

  • Vitamin B6 (as Pyridoxine HCL) - 10 mg

  • Vitamin B12 (As Cyanocobalamin) - 25 mcg

  • Iodine (From Atlantic Kelp (99.4)/ Potassium Iodide (0.6%) Blend) - 150 mcg

  • Magnesium (As Magnesium Oxide) - 100 mg

  • Zinc (As Zinc Amino Acid Chelate) - 3 mg

  • Selenium (As Selenium Amino Acid Chelate) - 70 mcg

  • Copper (As Copper Amino Acid Chelate) - 150 mcg

  • Manganese (As Manganese Amino Acid Chelate) - 150 mcg

  • Molybdenum (As Molybdenum Amino Acid Chelate) - 150 mcg

  • L-Tyrosine - 150 mg

  • Multi Gland Complex (From Liver, Lung, Pancreas, Heart, Kidney, Spleen) - 35 mg

Secondary Ingredients

  • Gelatin

  • Microcrystalline Cellulose

  • Silicon Dioxide

  • Magnesium Stearate

Many of the ingredients may not be known to consumers.  For example, L-Tyrosine, when combined with Iodine, promotes thyroid hormone production; Magnesium is needed as an imbalance can be caused by a poorly functioning thyroid; B12 deficiencies are common in hypothyroid patients and therefore is a key component of a thyroid supplement; Zinc and Copper assist in the production of the thyroid hormone; Manganese is needed to help with the activation of thyroid hormones. Unfortunately and curiously, some of the key proven ingredients for optimal thyroid support include Kelp, Bladderwrack, Schisandra, Ashwagandha Root, Bladderwrack, Kelp, Gotu Kola, Coleus Forskohlii and Gugulipids and are not included in this thyroid supplement.

This ingredient list, for the most part, is good; it does not contain artificial colors or flavors, citrus, dairy, fish, gluten, preservatives, salt, soy, wheat or yeast. However, it contains gelatin so it cannot be considered either vegetarian or vegan.

Daily Serving

Instructions on the label state to take one capsule up to three times a day preferably with meals.  Individuals who are pregnant, nursing, with other medical conditions, or taking medications should consult with their healthcare professional before using this product.

There are no warnings about taking this supplement for individuals who are hyperthyroid and we were alarmed that this was not included.

The Cost

One 100-count bottle of Thyroid Complex costs $11.99; shipping costs are $5.99.  Orders over $35 are eligible for free shipping. A purchase is only possible on the manufacturer’s website.

Guarantee

The Vitamin Shoppe does offer an attractive 100% satisfaction guarantee which states that any bottle whether it’s opened or unopened consumer or unconsumed may be returned for a full refund it accompanied by a receipt.  A store credit is issued if products are returned without a receipt.

Our Review Summary Of The Vitamin Shoppe Thyroid Complex

This is definitely a well-made supplement with many of the key ingredients for promoting a healthy thyroid including Iodine,  L-Tyrosine, Magnesium, B12, Zinc, Copper, and Manganese. It also has a 100% satisfaction guarantee which is reassuring when a manufacturer stands behind its products and allows for risk-free purchasing.

Unfortunately, the supplement is not manufactured in a GMP facility and is missing so many key ingredients - and ones that are widely proven to be instrumental in the management of hypothyroidism.  Moreover, the Vitamin Shoppe’s website provides minimal information about the product and what they feel is essential for a thyroid supplement.  Buyers are left with more questions than answers and will likely be directed to products that justify its contents, armed with facts about what to look for in purchasing a thyroid supplement.
